Five great websites for Digital Media in South Africa

The digital landscape in South Africa is growing in leaps and bounds with decent publications starting to hit the bookshelves most notably that of Alan Knott-Craig Jnr (World of Avatar founder) called Mobinomics and another penned by lessor known Lee-Roy Chetty (technology commentator and serious academic) Imagining Web 3.0 . It’s safe to say the local digital industry is beginning to take a serious step in the right direction when compared to the major players across the ocean.

We have some awesome websites and blogs around that offer some great insight  into industry trends and opinions on developments that anyone interested in tech and more specifically the digital landscape should take note of. I’ve put together a list of five of my favourite digital media sites for your perusal.

1. Memeburn - “Memeburn plays particular attention to the web, mobile, social media, online media and social networking fields. A mixture of the site’s own journalists, contributors, columnists and key opinion leaders world-wide write for Memeburn, providing their insights on the online world”

2. The HeavyChef - A blog and ‘project’run by the digital agency World Wide Creative most well known for producing the ‘Heavy Chef sessions’ where market leaders in the digital landscape discuss the various issues and trends affecting the industry as well as delving into the basics of what digital media really is.

3. GottaQuirk - another digital agency run blog with original content produced by the staff themselves on all things digital. A definite punt for the agency but some good info avaliable.

4. Mybroadband - the largest IT website in South Africa providing a wealth of business tech and technology news.

5. Winner of the best science and technology blog at the SA Blog Award 2011 the Bandwidth Blog offers previews, reviews, news and features on all things tech in South Africa.
